More than 40 football fans have been visiting a butcher’s in Salford to  watch the World Cup.

The Meat House Salford, Hankinson Way, has opened its doors for Brazilian and Portuguese communities

The butchers are known for its Brazilian and Portuguese meats but since the World Cup started, it’s also gaining a reputation for its atmosphere.

Owners Christian and Marile Estevam have been showing the games and the shop has become a hotspot for the matches involving either Brazil or Portugal, with the shop hosting up to 40 people per game.

Christian explained: “At first, we just sold our meats, but people would come in and stay and chat because there weren’t much Brazilian things around Salford, then we decided to serve some drinks and food and people would stay for lunch and dinner.

“We moved our freezers to fit more tables and we are going to move more in the future, we can fit about 40 people right now and it always gets busy for the football.”

The pairnoticed that there was a lack of butchers in Salford specialising in Brazilian and Portuguese meats so the Meat House began solely as a butcher but as its popularity grew the shop adapted.

It began selling cappuccinos in a small section of the shop before moving its frozen section to the other side of the room to accommodate for more tables and chairs and half the shop essentially became a café.

Customers were asking Christian about showing the World Cup games which sparked an idea, he decided to change the closing time to 10PM during the competition so that people can come down and watch the games whilst enjoying some traditional Brazilian food and drink such as Brazilian Feijoada and Brahma beer.

Christian said: “We in Brazil, we love football, when Brazil is playing so many people come down to watch the game here with other Brazilians.

“The Portuguese people too, we let them have first picks on the table and if we don’t fill up with just Portuguese then the Brazilians come along to support them too.”

The stakes were high for Brazil on Monday night as they took on South Korea for a place in the World Cup Quarter Finals, and Brazil didn’t disappoint, scoring four goals in the first half and winning the game 4-1.

Brazilian superstar Neymar opened the scoring from the penalty spot, before goals from Vinicus Jr, Richarlison and Lucas Paqueta put the game to bed by half-time.

Brazil have a match against Croatia on the menu, and the prospect of Brazil vs England in the final at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, is as mouth-watering as the food.

Portugal saw Brazil’s result and raised them last night with a 6-1 victory over Switzerland, Portugal manager Fernando Santos received criticism for benching Cristiano Ronaldo, but hidden replacement Gonçalo Ramos repaid his manager’s faith with a hat-trick and an assist.

Portugal now face Morocco on Saturday afternoon with the winner of that match earning a spot in the semi-final to face either England or France.
