After four assists in February, Salford City’s Elliot Watt now has the most in Europe.

The stellar month that saw him register three assists in one game against Mansfield Town has sent the flying Scotsman above established stars such as Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and World Cup Winner Lionel Messi, laying on 14 goals in 33 appearances.

These performances haven’t gone unnoticed either as the former Wolves man has been nominated for the EFL League 2 Player of the Month for February .Salford are now looking to go back to back after teammate Connor McAleny won the award in January.

Watt registered his customary assist against Newport County on Saturday, sealing the three points with a sumptuous delivery into Matt Smith who headed home to deliver the Ammies a 3-1 victory, despite going behind early on.

Watt joined Salford in the summer window for an undisclosed fee from fellow League 2 side Bradford City, after two years at the Bantams playing 87 times in the League. But he never reached the creative heights he has with this campaign, only notching up five league assists over his two seasons in the claret and amber of Bradford.

The new player has certainly settled quickly at Moor Lane, expressing in an interview with the club earlier in the season how “at home” he felt.

He said: “My Mum, Dad and girlfriend come to every home game and they’ve said sitting in the crowd, the fans all seem to know each other, everyone’s in it together, very rarely do you get that at a football club.”

Ammies supporters will be hoping Watt can push on and fuel their push for a trip to the home of football, Wembley, on the 8th of May.
