Keri Muldoon and Dancing with Dementia were among dozens of citizens recognised at last night’s Spirit of Salford Awards.
The awards, held at the AJ Bell Stadium last night (Friday 24 March) paid tribute to people and public services throughout the city who have made a positive impact in their communities.
Presenting the awards were Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, alongside patrons of the community.
Taking home the top award, Citizen of the Year, was community volunteer and the ‘Spirit of Salford’, Keri Muldoon, for hosting jubilee parties for local sheltered housing, promoting free access to arts and culture, organising community fun days, and supporting local struggling families.
Dancing with Dementia were awarded the second biggest award, Community Group of the Year, with St. Luke’s Art and Drama Society, and Connect Youth and Community Centre among the nominees.
Public Servant of the Year went to Tenancy Sustainment officer at ForHousing, Jo Salim, who was described as an ‘Angel of Life’.
Taking home the Spirit of Salford’s Special Recognition Award was support service Revive. Revive has improved lives in Salford for 20 years, supporting refugees, people seeking asylum and wider communities become integrated within their communities.
Other winners included: Tom Barrow (Young Person of the Year), Danielle Wright (Volunteer of the Year), Val Butterworth (Good Neighbour of the Year), Aspire 2 Age Better (Best Health Achievement), Friends of Parr Fold Park (Best Environmental Improvement), and No More Knives Tour (Best Community Safety Project).
