A duckling abandoned by its mother at Salford Quays has been rescued by the Leader of the city’s Liberal Democrat Group.

“Algernon George Charles” the duckling was rescued by Liberal Democrats councillor Alex Warren on Tuesday (May 2) after losing its mum near Erin Basin.

Borrowing a net from some nearby anglers, Cllr Warren saved the animal and delivered him to Irlam’s Animals in Distress.

Cllr Warren said: “They don’t survive without their mums. And residents flocked to help, people contacted the Lib Dems to see what we could do about it, so I ran across the Quays and grab a net from some helpful fishermen.”
