Irlam’s Ferryhill has beaten Sykes in Swinton by just one vote in our poll to find Salford’s favourite fish and chip shop.

Through the Irlam and Cadishead, Higher and Lower Broughton, Born in Eccles groups and our own Salford Now Facebook page, the votes were evenly distributed across the city.

Ferryhill Fish and Chips, Ferryhil Road, was the overall winner, with Sykes Chippy running a close second.

Manager of Ferryhill Hannah, said: “It’s so nice to be voted off by something like this. We have won one or two awards, but that’s normally just in our area. It’s nice to be voted for in the wider area.

“We do our best to ensure all our food is to a high quality standard and that’s something we’ve tried to keep up, especially with times being so hard at the moment.

“We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who voted for us.”

Other notable candidates for the title include the tied Eccles’ Captain Cod and Salford Precinct’s Kingfisher, both one chip ahead of the main man himself, Mr Chips.

Whether it’s cod, haddock, steak and kidney pie, battered sausage, or the good old classic smothered in gravy, Salfordians are proud of the produce their local chippies produce.
