Plans to demolish Ordsall’s McDonald’s, KFC and Casino complex to make way for four new tower blocks have been paused.
The news comes after Salford City Council judged plans to replace Riverside Retail Park with four blocks between nine and 25 storeys, containing 1,950 apartments, “not robust enough”.
UAE-based Imco Holdings, which owns the Regent Road site, submitted prior approval for the demolition of the three buildings in July.
The rejection document commented on fears of the environmental impact of the works of the nearby River Irwell and the footpath, as well as questioning how the site would be restored “post demolition”. An appeal against the decision made must be submitted within six months.
The submission of the plans came just weeks after plans to demolish most of Regent Retail park to make way for the UK’s third tallest tower was submitted to the council for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
The plans submitted for the nearby site would see one of the ten towers in the development stand at a whopping 264m, beaten only by The Shard (310m), and TwentyTwo (278m), nationwide.
