Salford charity take to freezing streets for 55 hours to raise £3K

Salford homeless charity Two Brews is planning a sleep-out in an effort to raise £3000.

Members of the charity will take to the street in Salford with only a rucksack and no access to money for 55 hours in wintry February

Co-founder Amanda says the sleepout will give an insight into the lives of homeless people, adding that it “enables us to see the streets through their eyes”.

Team members will be on the streets between 12pm on February 23 until 7pm on February 25.

Founded on Christmas Day 2020, the Salford-based group was granted charity status in July 2021 and is one of very few groups who go out seven nights a week, 365 days a year.

The group provides hot meals, warm clothing, endless brews and a friendly chat to those in need on the streets of Manchester.

With the group currently distributing 70-100 meals a night, Amanda spoke about the high demand that the charity are experiencing.

“We are getting too busy because of the cost of living crisis,” she said.

“If we could get three small businesses to do 24 meals each, that’s one night sorted.”

Speaking about the impact of a donation for those needing a meal, Thompson stated: “They’re not just buying a product or a food item, they’re buying love.”

Not only are Two Brews passionate about feeding the homeless community, they believe that interaction and valuing mental health is also of paramount importance.

“It’s not just about going out and feeding them, it’s trying to understand them and letting them know they’re not looked down on, at the end of the day, they’re someone’s mothers, someone’s fathers, or someone kids”
