Swinton Lions are set to face Sheffield Eagles in the next round of the Challenge Cup after success over Oldham.

The Lions’ success in the Challenge Cup continued after a 28-12 win over Oldham RLFC in the fourth round.

They will now welcome their fellow Championship side Sheffield Eagles in the fifth round with hopes to join all of the Super League sides in the sixth round.

It was a strong performance as the Lions overcame Oldham as they claimed four tries and four conversions to take the game.

Alan Kilshaw, manager of the Lions reflected on his 150th game in charge in Rugby League: “It’s great work coaching Swinton at the moment, being unbeaten. I’m really proud of the effort.

“We defended so well – Oldham threw a lot at us and they’ve got some quality players in there.

“We knew if we put pressure on them, there are players in there that’ll make errors and that’s how it transpired.”

His side are unbeaten in all competitions so far, but Kilshaw does not want his cup momentum to affect their league form.

Kilshaw added: “What we don’t want to do is go on this glorious cup run and then have a dip in the league. We need to keep improving every week and use that momentum. And I’m sure we will, it’s a good group and I’m really proud of them tonight.”

Their fifth round opponents, Sheffield Eagles, were triumphant over York in the previous round.

The two sides last faced each other in the league in September 2023, with the Lions winning 30-22.

The fifth round fixture is due to take place on the weekend of March 8/9 at their home ground on Heywood Rd.
