20 new affordable apartments are coming to Allotment Road in Irlam.

The site is located to the south of Irlam and the north of Cadishead, within walking distance of Irlam train station.

An existing detached two-stored property will be demolished to make way for a single block comprising 20 two-storey apartments with spaces for car parking.

The project is set to address the pressing need for affordable homes through social rent: a low-cost rent that housing charity Shelter says can be up to 80% cheaper than private rents.

The plot will be comprised of 10 one-bedroom apartments and 10 two-bedroom apartments. The project aims to employ 30% of workers from Salford in its construction.

A portion of ground-floor one-bedroom apartments will be ‘accessible-friendly’ units. While not fully wheelchair accessible, these apartments will feature full bathrooms with walk-in showers and accommodate future adaptations.

The development aligns with Salford City Council’s strategic vision, contributing to their ‘Great Eight’ themes, including tackling poverty, economic development and housing.

The project will be developed over 20 months, so is expected to be completed by November 2025.
