Salford Red Devils have announced that Oliver Russell has joined the club on a two-week loan from Wakefield Trinity.
The halfback has joined the Red Devils for training ahead of their fixture against Castleford Tigers.
The 26-year-old is expected to slot into squad straight away ahead of the Round 18 Betfred Super League fixture, following the expiry of Danny Richardson’s loan move from Hull KR.
Born in Oldham, Russell is a product of the Huddersfield Giants Academy and made his Super League debut in 2018 versus Widnes Vikings.
During his time at the Giants, Russell made 94 appearances, scored five tries and became a prolific goal kicker, knocking over two points on 191 occasions.
And after seven-years in Huddersfield, Russel moved further east, joining Wakefield Trinity on a four-year deal.
He will now pull on the Red Devils jersey for the next fortnight and will compete in games against Castleford this Sunday, and for the clash against Leeds Rhinos.
Following the signing, the Red Devils said: “Everyone at the Club extends a warm welcome to Olly and his family and look forward to seeing him pull on the red shirt very soon.”
His arrival this weekend, will hopefully Oliver Russell will be the final addition needed for the Red Devils who continue their search for a second league victory.
Salford made closer steps in their previous fixture against Warrington Wolves, receiving praise from head coach Paul Rowley, who said: “We’re disappointed to lose the game, but I thought we competed, and we wouldn’t be walking out embarrassed if we’d won the game. I thought it was quite evenly matched most of the game.”
And hopefully with additional experience being added to the squad, Russell will be able to contribute to squads developing success.
The Red Devils kick off at the Salford Community Stadium this weekend, with game commencing on Sunday 13 July at 3:00pm.
