Salford Red Devils have announced that Declan Murphy has signed a deal to remain at the club for the rest of 2025.
The 20-year-old has showcased some promising raw attributes in his two Betfred Super League appearances and will continue his development under the tutelage of our coaching team.
Following his introduction into the team, the Red Devils have also shared that they will be in discussion with Declan regarding a longer-term agreement.
Born in England, Murphy moved to Auckland, New Zealand at a young age, before heading back to the UK to begin his rugby journey in Union with six-time Premiership champions, Saracens.
Murphy spent two years at the club, featuring in various sevens competitions and gaining valuable experience at Championship side, Ampthill.
And after an impressive performance at Reserve grade level a few weeks back, Murphy was handed his Betfred Super League debut off the interchange bench in our Round 18 victory against Castleford Tigers.
With squad injuries a reshuffle forced Murphy into the starting lineup – where he played fullback on Friday 18 July fixture against Leeds Rhinos.
Murphy’s introduction into the squad has already been able to produce some eye-catching moments in a red shirt so far, notably by his quick turn of pace and fearlessness in taking on some of the league’s most established talent.
And now he will look to continue to represent the club and develop as a player, as Declan Murphy said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Salford so far. From the moment I walked through the doors, the players, coaches, and staff made me feel so welcome and allowed me to develop my game.
“I’m looking forward to the rest of the year and playing some good rugby with the boys – a big thank you to the fans for all their backing since I’ve arrived!”
Following his agreement to remain at the club, Salford Red Devils said: “Everyone at the Club is very excited to see Declan continue to showcase his talent in a red shirt going forward and congratulate him on his contract.”
The Red Devils will be now be hoping to continue see his performances in their next fixture against Hull KR on Thursday 31 July – with more information being found here.
