Funerals for the two Jewish men killed in a terror attack at a Synagogue last week have taken place.

Tributes have been paid to “hero” Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, following the horrific attack on Heaton Park Congregation synagogue in Crumpsall last Friday.

Daulby bravely barricaded the doors to Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue during the terror attack on Thursday October 2nd. He was accidentally shot by Greater Manchester police as he prevented attacker Jihad Al-Shamie from entering the synagogue on Middleton Road in Crumpsall.

Yesterday (October 5th), family members, local community and congregants from Heaton Park Synagogue gathered for the funeral of victim Melvin Cravtiz, 66.

Both victims are being remembered for their “bravery” as they barricaded the doors to the synagogue along with other worshippers and security staff.

A plethora of tributes have been left on the junction of Crumpsall Lane, which was blocked off by police during the attack. One tribute from King David Nursery writes: “To Adrian and Melvin’s families so sorry for your loss, thinking of you all at this sad time, forever in our thoughts”.

Another writes: “With love and sympathy to all our Jewish brothers and sisters after this shameful and cowardly attack.

Tributes left on the corner of Crumpsall Lane.

On Thursday October 2, Jihad Al-Shamie launched a rampaging car and knife attack outside Heaton Park Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester.

In the afternoon, counter-terrorism police declared the attack a “terrorist incident.” Members of the Jewish community were gathering to celebrate the holiest day in the Jewish religious calendar, Yom Kippur.

Yom Kippur is the ‘Day of Atonement’ which means to put things right. Members of the Jewish community treat Yom Kippur as a period of intense prayer, repentance and fasting.

At 9:31 am, reports of Jihad Al-Shamie driving his car towards people outside Heaton Park Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester, began to filter through.

Police were called to the scene as Al-Shamie attacked others with a knife. Members of the congregation blocked the doors of the Synagogue to prevent Al-Shamie from entering.

At 9:38 am, Greater Manchester Police shot the attacker dead at the scene, after concerns he was carrying a bomb. Once, a bomb disposal unit was deployed to the scene, police confirmed the device was unviable.

Cravitz and Daulby were victims in the attack, and Daulby was hit by police gunfire as officers shot the attacker, 35-year-old Jihad Al-Shamie.

On Saturday, Greater Manchester Police confirmed extra officers will be deployed to provide a “high visibility” presence within Jewish communities in Salford, North Manchester and Bury.

Today, Greater Manchester Police were still guarding the entrances to the Synagogue and patrolling Middleton Road. This allowed residents to roam freely in their community, parks, visit local shops and keep going with their day-to-day life- as they remember the victims of the attack.
