A spectacular interactive light show opens in Salford tonight, with a free outdoor light-art trail stretching 1.5km across the waterfront.
Lightwaves Salford returns to Salford Quays and MediaCity UK from Thursday 4 December to Sunday 7 December 2025.
Twelve installations will feature along the route, many using digital technology, light and sound to encourage visitors to interact with the artworks.
The trail is open to all ages, fully accessible, and does not require advance booking, running from 4pm to 10pm each evening.
The annual event is delivered by Quays Culture in partnership with The Lowry and aims to bring new creative pieces to public spaces.
This year’s edition has been promoted as one of the most interactive to date.
Bars, restaurants and the riverside market around MediaCity will operate alongside the trail, providing visitors with food and drink options during their visit.
Organisers say they expect strong local turnout as the winter season begins and footfall increases around the Quays.
