Salford City manager Karl Robinson was full of praise for his players after they battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town.

Kelly N’mai put The Ammies ahead after 26 minutes when he latched onto the end of a long ball forward by goalkeeper Matty Young and rifled home after cutting into the box.

Salford held firm in adverse windy conditions on the Fylde Coast until Matty Virtue headed an 82nd-minute equaliser to restore parity.

Fleetwood are the fourth-best team in the division when playing at home, and following the match, Robinson said he was “proud” of the way his team performed in “difficult” conditions.

He said: “I thought we were the better side, but we missed a couple of chances and we have got to learn to put teams away when we are on top.

“I’m really proud of my players and I’m proud of our fans.

“People won’t truly understand how difficult tonight was and how dry the pitch was. The wind as well, I thought our players showed tremendously bravery with how we tried to play.

“I felt like tonight we didn’t lose this game, but if we’d have won it would have been the biggest statement about us.”

Robinson felt that referee Seb Stockbridge officiated the match poorly and vented his anger at the number of crucial decisions he feels go against his side.

He added: “Their goal came from some of the most inconsistent refereeing decisions I have

“We had the biggest point-swing in refereeing decisions go against us last season – and it is happening again this year.

“We’re angry. I feel for my players, but they can’t do any more than they’ve done tonight.”
