Forecasters have warned about flooding and travel delays, with a weather warning issued for Salford.

The Met Office has put out a yellow warning for rain across the City and, according to the Government’s website, areas surrounding the River Irwell, Salford Quays and the Bridgewater canal are most likely to be affected by flooding.

It says that low-lying land and roads around the Worsley Brooks and its tributaries will be impacted most. Further rainfall is forecast this afternoon and river levels are expected to continue to rise.

A warning has been in place since 6pm on Sunday and will remain until 3pm on Monday, 15 December.

The warning said: “Spray and flooding on roads is probably making journey times longer, with bus and train services probably affected.

“There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads

“Some interruption to power supplies and other services is likely.

“Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible with a small chance of more significant flooding causing damage to some buildings.”

People are encouraged to avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near watercourses where possible.
