A charity that offers retired and semi-retired people opportunities to learn, stay active and enjoy themselves in later life is set to mark its 40th anniversary with a programme of activities.
U3a Salford runs more than 50 different interest groups each month, ranging from Science and Technology workshops to Scrabble and Spanish sessions.
The charity hosts gatherings at different locations across the city for Salfordians to socialise with like-minded people.
U3a says plans have been drawn up to make its 40th year memorable, with a ceremonial tree planting, a celebration lunch and a commemorative quilt-making session in store in 2026.
Mary McBride, Salford u3a Chair, said he was looking forward to commemorating the charity’s milestone.
He said: “Our organisation is going from strength to strength with more than 500 members from all over the city.
“The 40th anniversary provides us with a perfect opportunity to commemorate the past, celebrate what we do now and reach out to anyone who would like to join us.
“New members will find a warm welcome and a wide choice of activities to suit every taste be it active, educational, creative or social.
Social activities include a monthly get-together with a speaker, theatre and concert going, occasional coach trips and even European city breaks.
Most interest groups meet fortnightly or monthly at locations across Salford, including community centres, church halls and Gateway centres.
The cost to become a U3a member is £10 per year and some groups charge to cover the venue hire. More information about the charity and how to join is available here.
