Salford RLFC beat amateur side Hammersmith Hills Hoists 42-10 in the Challenge Cup to set up a third round tie with Super League outfit Hull FC.

The phoenix club cruised to their first victory against fourth-tier opponents in Chiswick.

Mike Grady’s men were given an early scare when Hammersmith Hills Hoists took an early lead after two minutes as loose-forward Callum Corey broke free to score under the posts.

After Jack Ryan had converted his kick, Salford muscled their way into the ascendancy and began to probe for a quickfire response.

Veteran hooker Brad Dwyer capitalised on indecisive defending to touch down the equalising try after eight minutes, leaving Sam Hill to kick the first of five conversions.

Five minutes later, Salford manufactured an overload and quick hands opened up the space for Hill to race down the right and give the away side the lead.

Deacon Connolly went over for Salford’s third try in nine minutes as the gulf in class between the sides began to tell.

Hoists rallied but could not prevent Salford from adding two more scores before the break. Joe Hartley crossed on the left before Rafael Van Osselaer finished off a lightning-fast attack down the right to give Grady’s men a comfortable 28-6 lead at the break.

Salford were handed a numerical advantage two minutes after the restart when David Eaton was sin-binned for delaying the restart and extended their lead before he came back on as Leunbou Bardyel-Wells forced his way over.

An inch-perfect  kick released winger Jimmy Russell to score as Hoists pulled a try back on the hour.

But with the amateur side showing signs of weariness, Hartley and Hills added the gloss to a convincing away performance with late scores to send a noisy Salford away contingent home happy.

Salford RLFC will host Super League side Hull FC in the Challenge Cup third round on the weekend of 7 February.
