Star of stage and screen Kara Tointon will take the lead in the critically acclaimed new production of sparkling comedy The Constant Wife, which comes to The Salford next month.

The 2010 Strictly Come Dancing champion will take centre stage at The Lowry Theatre, where the show will run from Tuesday 17-21 March.

Written by Laura Wade and directed by Tamara Harvey, the co-Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, this adaptation of William Somerset Maugham’s famous comedy will follow the story of wronged wife Constance as she deals with her husband’s extramarital affair.
Tointon, who famously played the role of Dawn Swann in EastEnders from 2005-2009, has been applauded for her performances as Constance throughout the production’s tour.

She is joined in the cast by Olivier Award winner Sara Crowe, along with Jules Brown, Tim Delap, Gloria Onitiri, Alex Mugnaioni, Philip Rham, Amy Vicary-Smith, Sam Flint, Jocasta King and Jane Lambert.

The show produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company opened this summer at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon to enormous critical acclaim.

Constance is a very unhappy woman. “Nonsense” says her mother “she eats well, sleeps well, dresses well and she’s losing weight. No woman can be unhappy in those circumstances.” Constance is the perfect wife and mother, and her husband is as devoted to her as he is to his mistress, who just happens to be her best friend.

Presented by David Pugh and Cunard, the production is touring the UK before making its debut at sea on the Queen Mary 2 Transatlantic Crossing.
