A new purpose-built specialist school is set to open in Salford to cater for children with learning disabilities.
The Quayside school, in Cemetery Road, Weaste, will take approximately 30 students aged 5-19 with autism and learning disabilities such as communication, sensory and behavioural needs to meet a ‘growing demand’ from students with complex needs both academically and personally.
Specialist provider Bright Futures will use highly-trained teachers, therapists and SEND professionals to provide a ‘person focused’ approach to cater for each pupil individually.
Nicola Wells, executive education lead at Bright Futures, said: “We are incredibly proud to be expanding into Salford, following the support of commissioners, and to be bringing a new specialist school to Greater Manchester.
“As we prepare for Quayside School to open in 2026, we are excited to embed our values, expertise and passion for inclusive education, creating opportunities for children and young people to flourish, and delivering meaningful impact for families and the communities we serve.”
The building is now complete and will be fitted out over the coming weeks. It will be open for locals to look around and visit on Thursday May 7, from 3-6pm.
