Kallum Cesay has signed a new contract to extend his stay at Salford City beyond the two-year deal he agreed last summer.

The attacking midfielder has enjoyed a stellar debut season in the English Football League after signing from Wealdstone in the summer, scoring five goals and assisting six in 34 appearances.

A graduate of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, Salford City say he has quickly become a popular figure at the Peninsula Stadium on and off the pitch thanks to his personable attitude and match-winning moments.

The 23-year-old returned to the pitch for the first time since Salford’s 2-0 win at Tranmere in January, after being sidelined for more than four months by a long-term injury.

He returns at an important time as Salford prepare to face Grimsby Town over two legs in the Sky Bet League Two play-off semi-finals, with a place at Wembley Stadium and potentially League One at stake.

Salfords late winner vs Swindon
Kallum Cesay has had an excellent campaign for Salford this season despite his lengthy injury lay-off.

Having adjusted well to life as a professional footballer, Kallum says he is hoping to bring even more to Salford over the next couple of years.

He said: “It’s my first season in EFL football, so I’m really happy to stay here to carry on my journey and hopefully do much more for this club.

“It’s a big step up [from Wealdstone], but I think I was always ready for it. I believe in myself, so I knew I could do it.

“My season kicked off from the Swindon game. After that, as soon as I got my first goal, I started to get assists, started to impact the game more, and it just went up from there.

“I can’t explain the feeling when the fans sing my name – it’s a very good feeling, I can’t lie, and it definitely helps! I’m playing football, I’m happy right now, and as long as I’m doing that, I’m happy.”

Salford City Stockport County Manager of the Month nomination
Karl Robinson is delighted that Kallum Cesay has signed a new Salford City contract.

Head Coach Karl Robinson hailed Cesay’s “brilliant” first season at Salford and said he is “thrilled” the versatile midfielder has committed to another year at the club.

“Kallum has had a brilliant first season in the Football League, and we are thrilled that he has agreed a new deal, which is absolutely deserved,” Robinson added.

“His energy is outstanding, and his personality is infectious. He makes coming into work every day a pleasure.

“This season, he has provided us with some great moments, whether it be a goal or his confidence and ability to express himself as a player.

“Through some real moments of adversity, he continues to smile, be positive, and lift everyone around him. He has such a bright future ahead of him, and we’re pleased that he sees it being here at Salford.”
