Firefighters worked through the night to put out a large fire which ravaged a Salford fashion outlet and has closed a major road in the city.
The blaze engulfed a large commercial premises on Bury New Road in the early hours of Thursday morning.
It gutted the Marc Darcy store on Hilton Street, sending plumes of black smoke curling into the sky.
Crews of firefighters from across Greater Manchester worked to bring the fire under control and limit the destruction to surrounding buildings.
Stretches of Bury New Road, Upper Camp Street and Fenney Street surrounding the collapsed menswear store remain closed.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said it was called to reports of a fire at Marc Darcy on Bury New Road in Salford just before 1.45am.
“Eight fire engines from Moss Side, Manchester Central, Salford, Broughton, Philips Park and Blackley as well as a turntable ladder from Whitehill attended an incident on Bury New Road, Salford,” a spokesperson for the fire service said.
“The incident was a fire involving one commercial property and firefighters used specialist equipment to bring the fire under control.”
Menswear retailer Marc Darcy said it hopes to “reopen ordering as soon as possible” following the devastating fire.
A statement posted on the business’s website reads: “Important notice. Due to a fire at our premises, we are temporarily unable to accept any new orders.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and will reopen ordering as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding.”
