7.6 tonnes of fly-tipping, dumped rubbish and litter have been removed from an Eccles neighbourhood as part of a council effort to make the city cleaner and greener.
Crews worked across the neighbourhood off Liverpool Road, Eccles on Wednesday 25 October to clean the area as part of the second Day of Action set up by Cleaner Greener Salford.
Councillor Barbara Bentham, Lead Member for Neighbourhoods, Environment and Community at Salford City Council said: “Residents are telling us that cleaner, greener neighbourhood are a priority for them, so we’ve ensured that we’re taking action, giving them places that they can be proud of.
“The days of action are in addition to our day to day work and we’ll be doing them monthly in different parts of the city.”
During the clean-up , the team swept 12 streets across Eccles and collected 4.4 tonnes of waste using mini-sweeper equipment.
Moreover, nine entries, eight street signs and public waste bins and three lots of graffiti have all been cleaned.
Three skips have been provided for residents to use and in a result, a total of 1.94 tonnes of waste has been collected.
One local Eccles resident, John, said: “The work the council is doing to make the alleyways more accessible and cleaner, part of the community and make it look good is a wonderful thing.”
Work will continue for Cleaner Greener Salford, as the next days of action are set to take place in Broughton and Kersal.
