The seven-acre garden, inspired by the historic Chinese city of Yangzhou, has opened to the public after more than eight years of planning and construction.
People in Salford can now visit a new Chinese garden at RHS Garden Bridgewater, featuring traditional buildings, bridges, plants and water features inspired by the city of Yangzhou in eastern China.
The new garden gives local people the chance to experience Chinese culture without leaving Greater Manchester. It could also bring more visitors to Salford, with another attraction to add to the list for people to explore.
What makes the garden particularly unique is the people behind its construction. Skilled craftspeople from China have used traditional techniques to create the buildings and other features.
The construction process brought skills and methods that are rarely seen outside of China.
The garden has four main pavilions, each linked to a different part of traditional Chinese culture including, music, chess, calligraphy and painting.
Visitors can also walk across traditional style bridges, while exploring the planting and water features throughout the garden.
The garden is being described as the UK’s largest Chinese garden, making its opening a significant addition too the region. It’s the first authentic classical Chinese garden of its kind to be built in the UK.
The Chinese garden is not the only reason to visit RHS Garden Bridgewater. The wider site is well maintained and attracts both locals and tourists throughout the year.
There is something for everyone as visitors of any age will find plenty to enjoy, from the gardens and walking routes to the different areas waiting to be explored.
The opening has given visitors the chance to see the garden for themselves, with the new space offering something different from the rest of RHS Garden Bridgewater.
“It’s our newest piece to our wonderful gardens,” a staff member of the gardens commented.
RHS offers memberships for the community. A student membership costs just £20 for the year, while an on-the-day adult membership costs £18.40.
In the leadup to the festive season from November to the end of December, the garden will be lit up to welcome the festive season.
