Dr Dolittle, the beloved family classic, is coming back to theaters across the country.

The highly anticipated musical, starting Mark Williams (Harry Potter, 101 Dalmatians, The Borrowers) as the eccentric Doctor, will take the audience across the world on a quest to find the giant pink snail. On the adventure the Doctor meets some very unusual creatures and teaches you to listen to the animals and world around us.

Staring alongside Mr Williams are Vicky Entwistle (Ackley Bridge, Coronation Street) as the cheeky parrot Polynesia and Brian Capron (Coronation Street, Grange Hill) as the bubbly Albert Blossom and ferocious Straight Arrow.

Puppets will be used to bring the all-important animals to life. There will even be some flying on a giant Moth.

When discussing the Moth, Mr Williams said: ”I’ve done a lot of flying. I’ve always really relished the physical part of film and theatre work so I actually made some specifications aha! I suggested a way to do it that I think will be brilliant.”

The show will open on December 11 at The Lowry in Salford and will then stay for four weeks, until January 5.

Working at Christmas can be difficult but Mr Williams is very excited to start the show: ” It will be such an uplifting show and there’s so much in it. I’m really looking forward to it.”

The music for the production has been written by the award-winning Leslie Bricusse (Willy Wonka, Home Alone, Doctor Dolittle) who won an Oscar for ‘’Talk to the Animals’’ from the original Dr Dolittle film.

The award winning song will return on the stage but there will also be many new editions, including ”you’ve never seen anything like it” that features a double headed lama.

The show will be accessible to everyone, including those who can’t always watch theatre performances. Special relaxed, audio described, captioned and BSL performances will all be available during the shows run at the the Lowry.  For more information on the special performances click here.
