The RSPCA Manchester and Salford branch is closed for adoptions due to the COVID-19 outbreak but wants to remind everyone that at the animal centre it’s “business as usual”.

The virus has resulted in all five of their charity shops having to close until further notice.

This means that they are losing 2/3 of the income they need to look after and re-home the pets they already have and also to admit more that need their support.

Susie Hughes, the Branch Manager, said: “We are having to eat into our reserves and our reserves are only six months so we are on a countdown as to how much longer we can last.

“We’re particularly keen to hear from people who would like to adopt kittens, we aren’t allowed to do any movement at the moment but we do have a number of pairs of kittens that we need to find homes for as soon as we’re allowed to re-home them.

I definitely do not want them growing up in an animal centre and want to get them homes as soon as possible.”

Rogan and Josh, 2 kittens looking to be re-homed.

However, the RSPCA branch is still accepting donations of various products listed on their blog.

“Things aren’t stopping just because of the virus” at the animal centre so to keep updated on all the hard work they are putting in and all the progress the animals are making you can follow them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram as well as keeping up with their weekly blog posts.

The RSPCA Manchester and Salford also want to remind people that although pets cannot get the virus they can spread it on their fur so when out do not pet other people’s dogs and if you do make sure you wash your hands as soon as possible.

Although it is not all doom and gloom. Susie said: “The animals have absolutely no idea what’s going on in the world, so it’s a real leveler and a great place to work right now and to take your mind of what’s going on outside”
