Heaven Bakery set up two years ago by Helena Kojo-Assan as a student, who is now a nurse believes the time has come to dedicate herself to her delicacies and pursue her passion.

Founder of Heaven Bakery Ltd Helena Kojo-Assan, 25, began her business journey as a Nursing student at the University of Keele where she was encouraged by friends to invest in her baking talents that were passed down from her grandma to her mother and now her, and create a business but as a stressed third-year student Kojo-Assan took matters concerning the idea lightly.

The business slowly began developing when social media accounts on Instagram were created, and order after order was being received as people were increasingly sharing an interest in the baked goods but still, the focus was on the completion of the Nursing degree and settling into a new home and job in Salford.

Once these elements were accomplished, Helena gradually began to return to taking order and baking, investing in new equipment such as a camera to share the latest update on social media, decorations for cakes further diversifying her product to include cupcakes, brownies and cake shake.

The expansion of the business began when its first official online delivery service on esty.com was last July and upgraded by launching Heaven Bakery’s website in October last year and offering the online delivery service on their own platform instead.

On the 25th of August last year, the first stall was held at Walkden town centre which was successful but also proved to be more challenging than anticipated and was a great learning curve for the following stalls to took place at The Lowry, Northern Quarter, Levenshulme, Chorlton, and Warrington, with the aim to join Bury, West Didsbury and Manchester city market in the near future.

Unfortunately, the business was thrown out of balance after all hard work when the second national lockdown commenced on November 5th, just two months of beginning to sell at stalls. The business had to scale down and re-adopt the online delivery which resulted in a slight fall in sales, also in November Helena proceeded to confirm the business with the council while awaiting the end of the lockdown.

Overcoming these obstacles, the Heaven Bakery stalls has become a regular function and Helena believes that the time has come to become fully dedicated she said, “I do love nursing and looking after my patients, but baking brings me another level of joy.” Helena hopes to launch a Heaven Bakery Shop in a maximum of a year with great future plans of acquiring several branches across the UK and globally.
