PICKING up a guitar was the start of something amazing for Nottingham-born performer Georgie, as she disowned her interest in a career in football and realised that music was what she wanted to pursue her career in and dedicate her life to.

It worked in her favour as she’s currently touring with indie rock sensation Jake Bugg.

“I did four shows with him back in February and March and he must have liked it so he’s invited me back, which is great because I’m a big fan of Jake,” she said.

“It’s super inspiring to be touring with him.”

As well as Georgie and Jake having a similar style in music they’re also from the same city: Nottingham.

“Obviously with us both being from Nottingham as well, it’s nice to be able to do all the UK dates with him.”

Georgie added: “I just go out there and er… do my thing!

“You know his fans are going to be into good music, I can only hope that they like me, if they don’t, they don’t.”

Georgie’s first single ‘Company of Thieves‘ was released on September 30 this year and already has 50,000 YouTube views.

The Columbia Records signed artist is also a big fan of the likes of Elvis; one of her inspirations and has been compared on numerous occasions to Fleetwood Mac.

“I was about 14, I was at my uncle’s house and playing all his old Elvis records,” she confessed.

“That kind of made me want to get into music.

“I bought a guitar, well my mum bought me a guitar and told me to learn loads of songs and as soon as I did that, it was like… it was pretty immediate. I knew it was what I wanted to do.”

Georgie was given the opportunity to fly out to America for three weeks this year to record her singles after being signed in September 2015, stating it was one of her highlights along with a trip to Singapore.

Because you’re doing what you love you don’t ever stop to think about it, but when you do stop to think about it, just being on tour and playing these kind of venues in itself is what you always dream of, and having a single out through Sony and Columbia is crazy.

“Now I’m looking back at it, I’m like s**t!” Georgie excitedly expressed.

After telling Georgie about the posts that’d been found on social media regarding her being 2017’s biggest breakthrough, she responded:

“That’s great, I mean obviously it’s kind of like at the same time I’ve still got a lot of work to do before I can be named, you know, we’ll see what happens in 2017 I guess.

“I’ve still got the album to finish and prove myself.”

Georgie admits that she feels as though she needs to earn her stripes a little bit more yet before making it big and says it’s a great feeling to know people are saying positive things about her.

Whilst researching Georgie, negative comments are nowhere to be seen, which she blushed to.

Music wasn’t always Georgie’s aspiration.

Before becoming a singer, she was a footballer, which is arguably on the other end of the scale in terms of interests.

“I used to play football, that was going to be my choice of career I think. I got a trial for Derby County and just picked up the guitar literally a day after that.”

Admittedly, Georgie didn’t know how to play an instrument before she picked up the guitar.

Her mum always used to have music playing in the background of her home which sparked an interest.

She admitted: “It’s embedded me, subconsciously, with an interest in music.

“When it came to picking up the guitar I’d already heard these great artists and musicians.”

When asked about what her goal was in the industry, she expressed that she was eager to create a great record which people can relate to, especially young girls.

“Something that connects in a true way, no bull***t, just real. I wouldn’t mind a Grammy!!”

When supporting Jake Bugg on tour comes to an end, she’ll be straight back on tour with Stockport-band Blossoms which she says is a similar kind of run to Bugg’s tour.

Georgie will be heading back to Virginia, America, in January to record the rest of her album which she hopes will be a great success.

An unknown quantity in the industry right now but as proven when teeing up Bugg, Georgie is an artist that is shooting and scoring right now…
