A new play is set to stage in an unlikely theatre – Broughton Leisure Centre’s swimming pool.

‘Take On Me’ is a show by theatre company Dante or Die. It is their latest in a series of productions about human nature in everyday buildings.

The performance is set in a 1980s leisure centre and will be staged in real-life centres across the UK.

The story follows a lonely woman going to the gym for the first time and a lifeguard who has never saved anyone.

The play is soundtracked by hits of the 80’s, including I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

Co-artistic directors Daphna Attias and Terry O’Donovan got the idea after visiting a leisure centre that was closing down.

Ms Attias explained: “We were fascinated by the democracy of these buildings that invite every part of society through their doors – from babies swimming for the first time to older people who’ve been advised to exercise by their GP, from gym buffs to aqua aerobics groups.

“These spaces are a diverse mix of people getting their heart rates going, striving for ‘better’ versions of themselves; to look better and feel better.”

Take On Me will be staged in the Broughton Leisure Centre in Salford between the 15th and 17th of February 2019. The tickets priced at £14 are available to buy at the Lowry website.
