Salford City Forest Green

Salford City have had an interesting start to life in League Two.

After a win in their first ever Football League fixture, their luck went missing with a number of successive draws that could have very easily been wins, robbing them of crucial points that could come back to haunt them come April.

Then came a 4-1 loss away to Crewe before a disastrous 4-0 home defeat to Forest Green Rovers, leaving people asking questions about whether the club could actually succeed at this levels.

But just a week after the defeat to Forest Green Rovers, their first ever Football League away win came with a convincing 3-0 reverse to Wallsall.

This was followed up by a home win against Cambridge before a loss to Northampton Town last Saturday.

Listen to the Ammies Aftermath podcast below with Will and Lars to get their thoughts on the Ammies’ start to the season.

On the Forest Green Rovers game Lars gave his thoughts; “It looked as though the players had given up, questions being asked if they were playing for the manager.

“Is the manager going out?”

“He wasn’t in his best mood after the match, though that is natural after a 4-0 home defeat.”

When discussing if Graham Alexander had found his best XI, Will said “He is getting there.

“If we remember Graham’s first season, he started with a 4-4-2. Then, mid-way through the season, he switched to a 5-3-2 and started grinding out results.

Going into this season, it is a different challenge to the National League. They had the quality to play at a higher level, whereas this year, there are some very good teams that have dropped down. Teams like Swindon and Oldham have played in the Premier League.

Truthfully, I don’t think many people inside the club thought they were going to walk this league.

“They wanted to use this season to get a foothold in the Football League.”
