Peter Connor, Former Ceremonial Mayor of Salford and former Councillor of 29 years, has died at the age of 78.

The flag at Salford City Council Civic centre flew at half mast yesterday as a sign of respect and remembrance.

In a lengthy career, Peter Connor was appointed as Lead Member for Community and Social Services in 1999, Lead Member for Housing in 2003 and Assistant Mayor for Adult Services in 2012.

Cllr Connor also represented the Kersal ward since 1990.

He was Ceremonial Mayor from 2017 until 2018, during which time he supported several local charities including Kidscan, Emmaus, Start Inspiring Minds, and the Feryal Rajah Educational Trust.

He held a key role with the council as lead member for housing when the city saw huge regeneration projects.
