MediaCityUK Phase 2

MediaCityUK £1 billion Phase 2 is officially under way.

The Phase 2 construction, which is set to double the size of Media City over the next decade, has begun on Booth’s supermarket car park.

The scheme intends to bring more apartments, offices and car parking to the already diverse complex which houses the likes of ITV and the BBC.

Developer Chapman Taylor, said the work has triggered the start of the next step on the journey of establishing MediaCityUK into a sustainable mixed-use community.’

This comes after Phase 1, which opened in 2011, brought three buildings for the BBC, 250,000 sq feet of high definition studios, and The University of Salford campus.

The new 632 Northern Edge apartments, studio space and cycle hub being built on Booths car park are the start of the scheme, granted planning permission in 2016.

Managing director of MediaCityUK, Stephen Wild, told Business Live that the Phase 2 plans would focus on driving forward the already established residential community at MediaCityUK, as well as acting as a magnet for even more digital and tech businesses in what promises to be an exciting next 10 years.
