Salford City Academy students and staff are having a non-uniform day this Friday, March the 19th, to raise money for Comic Relief.

Mr Moores, marketing and communications officer for Salford City Academy, says: “We would like to raise money for this worthy cause and would like to ask for your support.

“This day will be a non-uniform day for all students and staff, but we ask that students wear an item of red to show their support.

“We are asking for a £1 donation from students and staff [which] will then be passed to Comic Relief.”

History of Comic Relief:

The first Comic Relief happened on the 5 February 1988. The eight hour telethon brought together people from across the world of British comedy, from Jim Davidson to Harry Enfield, with a series of sketches and clips.

The mixture of laughter alongside hard-hitting topics resulted in £15 million being raised for people in Africa and the UK.

Comic Relief has revolutionised the world of fundraising. Apart from Red Nose Day and Sport Relief, related shows like “The Great Comic Relief Bake Off” and “Comic Relief Does the Apprentice” ensure that it keeps a high profile and the donations pour in.

In 2017, it managed to raise £99 million, and over its 30 years it has raised over one billion pounds.

Salford City Academy values:

Salford City Academy’s aims are to work together to basic principles, responsibility, excellence, commitment and teamwork; values which are reflected in this renewed fundraising effort.

The Academy constantly strives to be the best, and bring out the best in everyone. Tolerance, mutual respect, honesty and co-operation are fostered in line with the Academy values across the curriculum.

Students and staff work hard both inside the classroom to fulfil academic potential and outside of it to develop new skills in enriching their own lives and the lives of others.
