The Lowry’s annual mini-musical theatre festival Rewrites is returning to stage with original musical ‘GAME THEORY’ tomorrow.

Musical Rewrites will run from Tuesday 8th June to Thursday 10 June live in the Salford venue’s Lyric Theatre, with social distancing measures in place.

Each of the three showcased pieces will be performed to a limited capacity audience, who for the first time, will be sat onstage with performers.

The new musicals-in-development will additionally showcase online through on Demand UK’s platform from Friday 11 June.

The event stands to showcase original musicals touring for the first time, as works-in-progress, concert style performance.

Beginning the showcase on Tuesday 8 June at 7.45pm, GAME THEORY is “a thrilling original musical about friendship, betrayal, and the lengths we will go just to belong.”

“Game Theory tells the story of Cass, a university fresher desperate to feel like she belongs, and her three student friends hovering on the fringes of campus society, Mia, Tom and Luke. As the group are drawn into the black-market underworld of endangered flowers (yes that’s a thing!) they all become entangled in a criminal investigation, and it’s soon clear that someone is lying to them.”

Works being showcased include GAME THEORY, developed by Pitch Perfect, and written by Rachel Bellman and Josh Bird; and 34, an LGBTQ+ one man musical by Drew Dillon, presented by Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment.

Previously scheduled for November 2020, but postponed by covid, A Mother’s Song, a critically acclaimed piece with score from award-winning composer Finn Anderson, and Tania Azevedo, also joins the line-up.

Previous Musical Rewrites have included Andy Barnes’ ‘Sunshine’, and 2019 Edinburgh Fringe hit ‘Unfortunate’ – a retelling of The Little Mermaid’s villain ‘Ursula’.

Tickets are available at The Lowry’s website and are priced at £10.
