A man who pleaded guilty to throwing parcels containing illegal items over the wall of Salford Prison has been sentenced to 28 months in prison himself.
Dermaine York was arrested as part of Operation Dragonfire to crack down on the conveyance of illegal items into prisons.
The parcels contained drugs, three mobile phones with charging cables, tobacco and two screwdrivers.
Plain-clothed officers were tasked with arresting anyone trying to convey illegal items into Forest Bank prison in Salford on April 3 2021.
They spotted two people on a bike. One dismounted and collected a parcel, and CCTV showed him throwing two parcels over the wall into the yard where prisoners were exercising.
Operation Dragonfire is a multi-agency operation to prevent the conveyance of illegal items into prisons. The investigating detective said: “These items put prison officers at risk, fuel violence, and reduce chances of prisoner rehabilitation.”
