The players, parents and coaches of Kersal FC climbed five hours to the highest point of the Peak District.

The climb was to raise money to travel to Spain and take part in a under 10’s football tournament.

So far the team have raised £1195 out of their £5,000 target.

The parents and coaches have expressed how proud they are of the kids for completing the Kinder Scout hike and why it’s important to them.

Kersal FC Coach Craig Watts said: “It’s the memories as well for me, I’ve been involved in football since I was six and all my mates are still from playing football, so I want the boys to have the same experience.

“We’re at a club in the centre of Salford, in a under-privileged area, and some of the boys have never been abroad before, some don’t even have passports at the moment, it’s such a good opportunity.”

Rachel Pollock is one of the parents who organised the Go Fund Me page. She said: “We’ve set the bar at £5000, obviously if we can get more that would be ideal, but the main aim is just to get the children abroad, some of them have never had a holiday, this is a massive opportunity for them so we want to get as much as we can get really.”

Even though the parents set up the GoFundMe, the opportunity to play a tournament abroad would never have been possible without the support of the coaches.

One of the young players said: “I used to be very tense, I used to always think ‘oh I’ve got to do this or that’ and one of the coaches showed me that if I’m relaxed I play better football.”

Some of the other parents agreed: “They’re massive role-models for the boys, really good influencers.”

The team are hoping to conquer the tournament in Spain and reach new heights.
