A Salford based tattoo shop, chose to commemorate war soldiers for Remembrance Day in an extremely unique and special way.

On Friday the 11th of November, Old Empire Tattoo shop hosted a Remembrance day offer in which clients could have an army or Remembrance Day inspired tattoo starting from £11.

The offer was open to walk-in clients as the shop felt it gave people the opportunity to come in and honour all war heroes on such an important day.

Owner and tattoo artist Joel, 39, expressed that the inspiration for the offer was his own grandad who had served in World War Two. He said: “I was brought up knowing the great sacrifice so many made, not only for their generation but all the generations that have followed.”.

Promoted on various social media platforms such as Facebook and Tiktok, the offer was intended to connect the history of war and sacrifice to a young demographic. Joel felt that “It is so important to connect such an important part of our history with the younger generation.”

Joel continued: “The main influences behind the tattoos is to celebrate the importance of the poppy and the sacrifice that was made for us and so many.”

Remembrance Day is a British holiday that commemorates British service members who have died in military conflicts since World War One. The poppy is inspired by the poem “In Flanders Fields” and has been used as a symbol for Remembrance Day since 1921.

The offer was a success as Old Empire Tattoo were kept busy all day with clients wanting to honor British history. They expressed that they “will be doing similar events in the future.”
