A Salford organisation is helping artists find spaces for their work alongside support for their businesses.

The WEAVE Winter School is a series of masterclasses and workshops aimed at providing business support for local Salford artists.

The sessions will focus on helping independent artists find physical space for their work and will include three full days of business support.

Emily Marsden, the organiser of the event, said: “Space is a real issue, there’s not a lot available for artists within Salford and Manchester. That’s why Winter School focuses on finding spaces for artists so they can form a community and collaborate with each other.”

Alena Donely, a resident artist at Islington mill said: “I need separation from my work and my home life, to have my own creative space is crucial for my work.

“It can get really lonely so having a support group that can provide advice makes it a lot easier to be in the arts.”

The sessions will start at the Royal exchange on the 13th of December and will finish on the 15th of December at Islington Mill.

Gary Fisher, an independent sound artist who will be attending the event, said: “I think its important for artists to have space to work that’s not just their home, some of my work involves the use of bigger spaces so I’m hoping the winter school will help me find space to make my ideas happen.”
