Neil Wood had a lot more to be happy about this past weekend, as the Ammies were able to come from behind to beat Newport County 3-1.

Salford City had to show some real character after going a goal from Charsley, in the 29th minute, despite being the better of the two sides.

Coming into the game following a frustrating draw to Barrow mid-week, they needed the points to keep promotion dreams alive.

And after going a goal down, it wasn’t the start he was hoping for with Neil Wood adding after the game:”I thought we started the game well, unfortunate or slight luck that put them in front for the goal.

“It fell to the lad and he finished it really well.”

After going behind the Ammies continued to push against a now 18th placed Newport County, despite the best efforts of Joe Day in goal.

Wood added: “We had two or three good chances where the keeper pulled off some unbelievable saves.”

With Salford continuing to push as the first half progressed, it seemed more and more likely that a goal was going to come for the home side.

“We kept going and put the pressure on just before half time and could feel it coming, and it was a great finish by Callum Hendry,” continued Wood.

“I’m pleased that we came from behind, and won the game really pleased but would’ve liked to have finished the game off quicker than we had.”

And it certainly didn’t take them very long to take the lead with a 46th minute goal by McAleny.

With the game culminating in a nervy final 10 minutes, before the third Salford goal was scored by Matt Smith in the 94th minute.

It seems as though that his side in recent weeks are struggling with consistency, coming into the game with one win in the past five.

Neil agreed that they’ve found difficulty in putting games to bed. He said: “We don’t quite punish teams and that’s on our minds and one of the lessons that we spoke about to the players.”

And it will be the consistency that they’ll need to find in order to continue their push for promotion, currently residing four points off the automatic promotion places.

Hoping to get something out of there next game away, as they travel to Crewe Alexandra on Friday Night.
