The ex-boss of Lucy Letby has been suspended from her new position at Salford Royal Hospital’s trust after a number of Countess of Chester executives have been accused of failing to act against the killer nurse.
Alison Kelly, the former chief nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital, was suspended from her new position as director of nursing at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, after being accused of failing to act, alongside a number of other top executives, whilst killer nurse, Lucy Letby, 33, murdered seven babies, and attempted to murder six more infants, under her care.
The accusations against Ms Kelly, who has more than 30 years of nursing experience, came during the final week of Letby’s trial, which has seen Britain’s most prolific child killer given a whole-life sentence, the fourth woman in UK history to receive the verdict.
Nicky Clarke, chief people officer at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, has confirmed Alison Kelly has been suspended, saying: “We are unable to comment any further at this moment in time.”
Ms Kelly is one of three directors from the Countess of Chester who have been publicly criticised, alongside retired former medical director Ian Harvey and former chief executive Tony Chamber.
Prior to joining the Foundation Trust, which runs Salford Royal, Fairfield General Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary, and Royal Oldham Hospital, Alison Kelly was director of nursing and quality at the Countess of Chester Hospital for eight years, during Letby’s killing spree.
