Salford Red Devils have secured the services of hooker Amir Bourouh for the 2024 season but fans are still fearing losing some of their best stars this autumn because of the club’s poor financial situation.

Bourouh, who has played for Swinton Lions and Barrow Raiders on loan deals in 2023, has committed his future to the Red Devils. The Yorkshire-born hooker made his league debut against Salford and has since made the switch from Wigan Warriors in 2022 on a two-year deal.

He has since made 19 appearances for the Red Devils. Despite two loan spells this season which only saw him make four appearances, he gained some valuable experience that the team definitely needs going into the 2024 season. Though he is largely seen as a backup to premiere Red Devils hooker Andy Ackers.

With signing his one-year contract extension he can continue to work with a head coach who achieved so much playing in the same position as Bourouh.

Bourouh said: “I am over the moon to have extended my contract at Salford, I am looking forward to seeing you all again next year.

Head Coach of Red Devils, Paul Rowley also commented: “Its great news that Amir Bourouh has extended his contract. He is a pleasure to coach and the playing group will be delighted that he is continuing his journey with a bunch of his best mates.”

He and his Red Devils side need to keep as many players as possible as the Red Devils look to make the 2024 playoffs, after narrowly missing out last season.

Director of Rugby and Operations Ian Blease added: “Amir is a really exciting talent and I am glad we have been able to extend his contract by a further season, he is a player with a lot of potential, and this club is perfect for him to realise that, especially under this group of coaching staff.

“It was clear his confidence grew across 2023 and I look forward to seeing how he can contribute to the team across 2024. Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Amir on his new deal.”
