A protest in support of Palestine is set to take place outside the BBC headquarters this weekend amidst what appear to be an imminent ground invasion in Gaza.

Youth Front for Palestine (YFFP) and Manchester Palestine Action (MPA) have organised an emergency demonstration at 1pm on Saturday October 21 outside the BBC building in MediaCityUK, Salford.

The protest announced collaboratively via their Instagram pages, will aim to “fight all kinds of British complicity with Israeli crimes.”

Tensions have been inflamed in communities around the country after an incursion by Hamas into Israel killed more than 1,400 Israelis. The country has responded by bombing positions in Gaza, killing over 2,800 people.

The demonstration comes from the YFFP and MPA’s expression of their belief that the BBC are “complicit in the genocide on Gaza.”

The Instagram post reads: “The BBC has once again proven that it sides with the oppressors…from spreading false narrative and lies to promoting Zionist propaganda and de-humanising Palestinians.”

There are 16 other organisations supporting the Salford demonstration, including the Muslim Association of Britain, Manchester Jewish Action for Palestine and the Greater Manchester Stop the War Coalition.

The BBC has often been heavily criticised on their biased reporting of the Israel-Palestine conflict, having previously faced backlash from pro-Palestinian advocates in the Greater Manchester area. The broadcaster revealed that it has received over 1000 complaints, though it says an equal number have come from either position.

Manchester Youth for Palestine organised a similar protest in May 2021, where hundreds gathered outside the global news broadcaster’s main building at the Quays to protest the BBC’s reporting of the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Four years ago in February, in the same location, the Manchester branch of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign also held a peaceful protest in support of the Middle-Eastern country and its people. They strongly opposed the BBC’s broadcasting of Israel hosting Eurovision’s 2019 Song Contest in Tel Aviv and flocked to MediaCityUK to call for a change of location.

Check out the Instagram pages of YFFP and MPA‘s for more on the protests as they occur throughout the coming weeks, as well as information to further educate yourself on the catastrophic events over the decades of the Israel-Palestine conflict.
