The Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett has visited the first site for the new Rough Sleepers Accommodation Programme.

Dennett said: “We’re here today (November 27) on Eccles New Road to celebrate the first scheme starting to bring forward accommodation for people who have either been homeless or at risk of being homeless in the city of Salford.”

Identity Consult is an independent development and construction consultancy that has been working with Salford Council for the past four years reviewing various sites to see how they can bring them back into use for affordable social housing.

Alex Atkinson, Director at Identity Consult, said: “Rough sleeping is obviously a big issue across Greater Manchester and it’s absolutely brilliant to see this being brought forward in Salford.”

This site has been identified as one that could be used for the Rough Sleepers Programme alongside a number of affordable homes. They will be delivering 14 of these homes on this site.

Ben Tabiner, Associate Director at Buttress Architects, said: “In developing the designs for the move on homes, we’ve worked with a local homeless charity, Loaves and Fishes and engaged with a user group there to make sure that the homes as we designed them suit the kind of very specific needs of particular occupants.”

Dennett added: “It’s fantastic what we’ve done so far. We know we’ve got another two schemes of homelessness accommodation in the pipeline already.

“Thank you to everyone involved.”
