A support group in Salford is giving people a chance to remember friend and family lost to dementia this Christmas.
Aspire Care and Support is hosting its annual free Dementia Memorial Service to bring people together to remember their loved ones on Thursday, December 14, from 5 pm at the Humphrey Booth Resource Centre on Worsley Road in Swinton.
The annual event will offer the opportunity to reflect and hope.
Guests will be offered mince pies and hot chocolate, accompanied by live singing and inspirational speeches by the heads of Aspire.
The service will also feature lighting up a remembrance tree with personalised decorations. Guests will encouraged to write messages and bring photographs or other mementoes to personalise their bauble.
Lisa Dickinson, CEO of Aspire for Intelligent Care and Support, said: “We understand that whilst Christmas is often a joyful time filled with celebrations and love, it can also be tinged with sadness if we are facing it without a loved one or are caring for someone with dementia.
“We hope this meaningful and uplifting event will offer people strength as we stand together to reflect on happier times and remember those we love.”
Regarding the rise in demand for their services, Leanne Taylor, Communication and Engagement Manager said: “There is always a massive demand for support for people with dementia. Every year, we see more people who come in and access our services. We’ve seen an increase in demand”.
The entry is free, and all the donated money raised (suggested donation for a bauble is £5) will go towards Poppy Dementia Support.
