Have you got all your Christmas gifts, or are you a last minute shopper?

For many this time of year is a joyful time, filled with good food, nostalgic TV and family. However notably for many the magic of this season comes in the form of a beautifully stocked Christmas tree. As the doors on people’s advent calendars are now opening daily, the countdown is truly on.

Salford is lucky to have a high concentration of great shopping destinations just a tram ride away, from The Trafford Centre to Walkden Town Centre, you are sure to find what you need.

But at what cost?

The bank of England stated in 2020 that the average British household spends 29 per cent more in December than any month of the year. And according to a yougov poll people have been setting aside nearly £700 pounds a year for gifts since 2021. Although in 2022 people spent on average £30 less than the previous year on Christmas gifts.

As household costs continue to rise, are we expecting to see a fall in the average costs of Christmas gifts this year? The people of Salford and Manchester discussed.

From “electric scooters” to “new handbags” Christmas shoppers were bustling through the Trafford Centre, held down by bags but not budgets.

The majority of shoppers discussed how they didn’t have a set amount they plan to spend this Christmas but expected to spend similarly to how they spent in 2022. Despite a noticeable increase in the price of items on the shelves.

If you are still yet to fill your stockings with presents this year there are plenty of affordable choices, to help save money at Christmas and create great memories. However, the people of Salford, and the Trafford Centre shoppers have predicted the Christmas budget wont be far past last year’s.
