After years of helping young Salford residents further their education by keeping them from being excluded, the ‘Innit Community Hub’ are now hoping to raise £60,000 for a new drama space.

The group believes their new space in the Lowry Shopping centre (next to their community hub), will provide brighter futures for the youth of Salford, providing employment opportunities and a safe space away from school.

The group founder, Micky Dacks, said : “We wanted to give the proper full experience, we bought 1200 seats at The Lowry (theatre), paid for transport to pick them up from the schools, we gave them free tickets and we gave them a free programme to take home.”

The group hopes to raise funds in the following months so the studio can have improved facilities in the next year, such as new lighting and a theatre space.

According to the group, the new drama space would promise new futures for those who need extra support they aren’t receiving from school.

The group’s CEO Angela Lea also wanted to highlight the significance of the group, stating: “The studio theatre is a really exciting development, we are planning to get local young people in groups to develop their drama skills, developing their work and developing their employability.”

The new funds are going to be in aid of different sessions like stage management, as well as just to give more of a focus to the amazing influences of drama and the arts to the community.
