The Deputy City Mayor has stated the council is aware of the elderly care home Laburnum Court closing and officers “have been attending meetings.”

Families and staff at Laburnum Court were recently informed that the Broughton care home will close by mid-March 2024.

Reportedly, the home was deemed by investors as not financially viable and the owners are aiming to repurpose the building on Priory Grove in Salford.

Councillor John Merry, Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Adult Services, said: “We have been made aware that Belz Care is closing Laburnum Court, a care home that supports a large number of vulnerable people in our city.

“The timing of the announcement has caused distress for residents, their families and the committed staff who work there.

“Council officers have been attending meetings and are working extremely closely with all parties.”

Closing the care home would put 91 staff members out of work, and force 55 vulnerable residents to move elsewhere.

In response to the loss of 91 jobs, Belz Care Ltd previously stated: “We are working with external agencies and are attempting to seek out as many employment opportunities as possible and are sharing this information with staff as it becomes available.

“We will support staff in making any necessary applications and provide interview preparation sessions if required.”
