A new production of the ‘American Buffalo’ by Rising Moon Productions will be coming to The Kings Arms in Salford this March.

Directed by Olivier Award winning David Thacker (Former Octagon Theatre Bolton artistic director), the show will come to Salford’s The King’s Arms from March 14 until March 24 2024.

American Buffalo is a 1975 play by American playwright David Mamet. The play at the time had a successful run and even featured on Broadway in 1977.

The play is set in a junk shop in Midwest America and follows three small-time crooks that plot to carry out the midnight robbery of a coin collection. In the hours leading up to the heist, “friendship becomes the victim in a conflict between loyalty and business.”

Director David Thacker said: “I’m delighted to accept the invitation from Rising Moon Productions to direct American Buffalo at The King’s Arms.

“Without any arts funding, Lisa Connor has created one of the most important fringe venues in the North West and I’m keen to support her ambition to stage high-quality, accessible, affordable, home-produced professional theatre.

“Lisa hopes that American Buffalo will be a catalyst for a year-long sustainable programme – collaborating with local creatives to deliver accessible, exciting and diverse theatre and I hope I can help advance this aspiration.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity of working again with Colin Connor, David MacCreedy and John O’Neill.”

The full cast includes Colin Connor Warhorse (World Tour); Girl from the North Country (UK Tour), David MacCreedy The Full Monty (UK Tour); Bouncers (John Godber Company) & John O’Neill Boat Story (BBC); Coronation Street (ITV).

With assistant direction from Oliver Hurst (Red Brick Theatre).

Tickets are available via The King’s Arms here.
