A homeless charity which has been supporting homeless people in Salford for 12 years is now at risk of being closed down.
After years of helping thousands of homeless people, Emmaus Salford says it is now being forced to find new premises after Salford City Council earmarked the site for development.
The council says it is working alongside the charity to help find new premises within the city.
The charity on Fitzwarren Street doesn’t just provide a home to the homeless, it also aims to create a community where people are provided with training, mental health workshops and work related opportunities. People who are a part of the Emmaus charity program are able to access individual support as well as personal development.
Tracy Kelly, the Deputy City Mayor, said: “The council is committed to delivering our goal of providing quality affordable housing, to help alleviate the housing crisis the city is currently facing.
“We have started and will continue to work closely with Emmaus and will do all we can to support them in finding a suitable alternative location in the city.”
Also partnered with Lucie’s Pantry, the charity also provides a sustainable and affordable source of food for people who are struggling in Salford.
As imagined, numerous lives will be affected if the charity was to close down, therefore the charity is asking the public to donate to their online fund so that they can continue to keep people from becoming homeless.
