The smash hit Broadway and West End adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird will head to the Lowry in 2026. 

Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird will visit the Lowry as a part of its first ever UK and Ireland tour.

The tour will stop in Salford from Tuesday 13 to Saturday 24 January 2025 – with tickets on general sale from January 31 2025.

Oscar winning Aaron Sorkin’s riveting stage adaptation will follow the seminal American novel about racial injustice and childhood innocence.

The performance will be a spectacle for Lowry audiences, with Aaron Sorkin having many years of great success on stage and screen.

Sorkin is best known as the creator and screenwriter of hit TV series The West Wing, and as the screenwriter for The Social Network, for which he received aAcademy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA and Writer’s Guild Award.

The performance and story is set in 1934 Alabama, and is inspired by novelist Harper Lee’s own childhood.

As successful lawyer, Atticus Finch, encourages kindness and empathy in his children, but is pushed to the limits of these qualities himself.

The story unfolds when he resolves to uncover the truth in a town that seems determined to hide it.

The novel To Kill A Mockingbird has since sold more than 45 million copies worldwide, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Literature and was long at the top of the banned book lists.

The show will plan to be a spectacle for all audiences who attend with audiences being able to enjoy the thrilling courtroom drama.

To Kill A Mockingbird will also be paired with Bartlett Sher’s visionary direction,

Bartlett Sher spent over ten years as Director of New York’s Lincoln Centre Theater and has also headed acclaimed productions such aMy Fair LadyThe King and I and South Pacific.

Tickets went sale to Lowry Members on Thursday 30 January and have gone on General Sale on Friday 31 January 2025 – and can be found here.
