Emergency services are currently in place near Salford’s Lowry hotel after reports of a person in water of the River Irwell.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said emergency services responded to reports of a person ‘entering the water’ near to the Lowry Hotel on Salford’s border with Manchester.

Following the reports, emergency services attended the incident near Blackfriars Street, responding “to a concern for welfare in water in the River Irwell.”

The incident was made aware to the police around midnight, with emergency services still in place this morning (Thursday 17 July).

Today, GMP shared in a statement: “Emergency services are currently responding to a concern for welfare in water in the River Irwell, near Blackfriars Street.

“It is believed a person entered the water and emergency services are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

“A scene remains in place whilst detectives are investigating.”
