Emergency services are in place near Salford’s Lowry hotel after reports of a person in the water of the River Irwell.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said emergency services responded to reports of a person ‘entering the water’ near to the Lowry Hotel near Blackfriars Street, responding to a concern for welfare.

The incident was reported around midnight, with emergency services still in place this morning (Thursday 17 July).

Today, GMP said: “Emergency services are currently responding to a concern for welfare in water in the River Irwell, near Blackfriars Street.

“It is believed a person entered the water and emergency services are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.”
